New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given instructions to bring back the stranded Indians from Ukraine much before the Cabinet Committee on Security met on Thursday. “The government is bringing them back on its own expense. And the drive to bring back the stranded Indians was initiated much before the CCS meeting day before yesterday,” Rajnath Singh told journalists. “Our External Affairs Minister (S. Jaishankar) also discussed the issue with his Ukrainian counterpart. Arrangements are being made to bring them safely,” he said. On the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Minister said: “We wish the situation becomes normal.” Several videos of stranded Indians have emerged in the past few hours wherein they are seen appealing to the government to evacuate them quickly.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a political support in the United Nations Security Council. In a tweet post, Zelenskyy said, “Spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Informed of the course of Ukraine repulsing Russian aggression. More than 100,000 invaders are on our land. They insidiously fire on residential buildings. Urged India to give us political support in United Nations Security Council. Stop the aggressor together.” India had abstained on the vote on draft resolution that condemned Russia’s ‘aggression’ against Ukraine in UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine. China and UAE also abstained on the vote while 11 countries voted in favour of the resolution.
