Rajasthan HC Directs Asaram Bapu to Surrender at Jodhpur Jail

Jodhpur : The Rajasthan High Court has rejected self-styled godman Asaram Bapu’s plea seeking an extension of interim bail on medical grounds and directed him to surrender at Jodhpur Central Jail on August 30. Asaram, who is serving a life sentence in a minor rape case, had earlier been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on January 7, 2025, due to health concerns, which the Rajasthan High Court extended periodically, most recently until August 29. A division bench of Justice Dinesh Mehta and Justice Vinit Kumar Mathur examined the medical report submitted by Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, and observed that Asaram’s condition was stable and no longer required hospitalisation. In its previous hearing, the court had directed the constitution of a medical board at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, comprising at least two cardiologists and one neurologist of professor rank, to evaluate his health, which formed the basis for rejecting further bail extension. Meanwhile, the Gujarat High Court had extended his temporary bail in another rape case until September 3, noting the ongoing proceedings in Rajasthan and pending medical reports.
