Punjab VS unanimously passes resolution on BJP-led Union Govt’s foreign policy failure & its impact on India’s energy security

Chandigarh : The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution highlighting the Union Government’s failure on the foreign policy front and its adverse impact on the country’s energy security. The resolution was tabled by Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, Forest and Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, who said that the flawed foreign policy approach of the BJP-led Union Government has created a serious energy crisis affecting people across the country.

Resuming the debate on the resolution, Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak invoked the sacrifices made by India’s freedom fighters and said that the sovereignty for which they fought has been undermined by the Union Government’s actions. “Freedom fighters sacrificed their lives to free the country from the yoke of foreign imperialistic rule, but that same freedom has been battered away to the USA by the BJP-led Union Government in the wake of the Iran–US–Israel war,” stated the Minister.

He added that the ongoing conflict has led to the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, triggering a severe disruption in energy supplies to India. “The Iran–US–Israel war has resulted in the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, which has caused an unprecedented shortage of LPG and oil in India, leading to harrowing inconvenience for the people,” Kataruchak stated.

Echoing similar sentiments, Education, Information, and Public Relations Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that the Union Government’s directionless foreign policy has weakened India’s global standing and pushed the country into diplomatic isolation. “The directionless and inherently flawed foreign policy of the Union Government has brought things to such a sordid state that India has been left almost isolated and without any friends at the international level,” stated Minister Harjot Singh Bains.

He further noted that similar circumstances were witnessed during Operation Sindoor. “During Operation Sindoor as well, India found itself in a difficult diplomatic situation,” Bains added.

Highlighting the economic implications of the crisis, Harjot Singh Bains said that India’s investments in the oil sector in countries such as Russia and Iran are now facing serious uncertainty. “Not only this, but huge investments of the country in the oil sector made in Russia and Iran are now doomed,” Bains stated.

He also pointed out that the severe energy crisis caused by the war has begun affecting social life across the country. “The huge energy crisis triggered by the war has caused many social functions in India to be cancelled, causing distress to the public,” added Harjot Bains.

Cabinet Ministers Tarunpreet Singh Sond and Hardeep Singh Mundian, along with MLAs Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Gurinder Singh Garry Warring, Vijay Singla, Bram Shanker Jimpa, Amansher Singh Sherry Kalsi, Manvinder Singh Giaspura, Balkar Singh, Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Gurpreet Singh Banawali and Laljit Singh Bhullar also expressed similar views during the discussion and supported the resolution in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
