Punjab tremors: 6 prominent Akali Dal leaders join BJP
Jalandhar, Jan 12: Ahead of the 2022 Punjab assembly polls, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) suffered a jolt when its six prominent leaders, including Media Advisor of party leader Bikram Singh Majithia and Damdami Taksal Spokesperson Prof Sarchand Singh, joined the BJP in the presence of Union cabinet minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat here on Wednesday.
Former MLA Didar Singh Bhatti, his son Gurvinder Singh Bhatti, former MLA Satwant Singh Mohi, SAD sports wing president Rajpal Chauhan and Student Organisation of India (SOI) leader Amritpal Singh Dalli, a grandnephew of recently expelled senior Akali leader and three-times MLA Mohinder Kaur Josh also joined the saffron party on the occasion.
Union minister Som Parkash, Lok Sabha MP Hans Raj Hans, and Punjab BJP general secretary Jeevan Gupta were also present on the occasion.
Prof Sarchand is also the press secretary of Damdami Taksal Head Baba Harnam Singh. A Sikh educational organisation and a prominent voice on panthic issues, the Damdami Taksal was once headed by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
