Punjab: AAP government has launched a new initiative under the Clean and Green Renewable Energy project, aiming to boost the state’s green energy production. A total of 66 projects will be implemented across Punjab by December 2025, generating a substantial 264 MW of renewable energy. The Punjab government has signed a 25-year agreement with VP Solar Generation Company, which won the bid for this large-scale project. The company will oversee the installation of solar plants throughout the state to meet the ambitious energy goals.
As part of the initiative, each of the 66 solar projects will generate 4 MW of energy, with a total investment of ₹1,056 crore. These projects are set to produce approximately 400 million units (MU) of electricity, helping reduce the state’s reliance on traditional energy sources. The solar power purchase agreement has been signed at an incredibly low rate of ₹2.38 per unit, marking it as the most cost-effective agreement in Punjab’s history.
Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, who is also the AAP state president, revealed that this initiative aims to lead Punjab toward prosperity while also contributing to environmental sustainability. The 25-year deal with VP Solar Generation is expected to bring significant savings in agricultural subsidy bills, with an estimated annual saving of ₹176 crore.
This project aligns with the state’s long-term goal of increasing its renewable energy capacity and reducing its carbon footprint. With the success of these projects, Punjab will make a significant leap toward a greener and more sustainable future, ensuring energy security while also addressing environmental concerns. The expected completion date for all the solar plants is December 31, 2025, making it a key milestone for the state’s renewable energy goals.
