Punjab is on high alert again as the state braces for another spell of monsoon rain. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in six districts, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds over the next few days. The rain is expected to intensify, disrupting daily life and possibly leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas.

The six districts placed under yellow alert are Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, and Jalandhar. Dark clouds began hovering over several cities early this morning, and light showers have already started in some areas. Weather experts believe the interaction between moist air from the Bay of Bengal and northwestern winds is creating ideal conditions for consistent rainfall.

There has also been a slight rise in temperature, with mercury levels going up by nearly 1°C compared to yesterday. This increase in humidity is making the atmosphere feel warmer, but officials believe the rain will bring temporary relief from the heat.

However, the public has been urged to take precautions. Authorities have requested citizens to avoid stepping out unless necessary and stay away from old trees or unstable electric poles, as strong winds may pose additional risks. Emergency services have been put on standby to deal with any untoward incidents.

The rains are expected to continue at intervals until July 21, potentially affecting transportation, agriculture, and power supply in some areas. Farmers have been advised to safeguard their crops. While the rainfall may benefit paddy cultivation, it could damage certain vegetables and disrupt field activities.

With the state already receiving 39% more rainfall than average this season, officials are keeping a close eye on dam water levels and drainage systems. Preparations are also underway to handle any sudden rise in water levels in rivers or canals.

The situation remains under close observation, and weather bulletins will continue to be updated in real time. Citizens are advised to stay tuned to official channels for the latest weather advisories.
