Protests Erupt in Punjab Against Himachal’s Increased Entry Tax, Traffic Disrupted
Chandigarh : Punjab witnessed strong protests on Wednesday against the increased entry tax imposed by Himachal Pradesh. Anger spilled onto the streets in border areas, leading to major traffic disruptions at several locations.
In Nangal, as per the planned schedule, protesters staged a sit-in on National Highway Extension 503. A large number of people gathered on the road, resulting in long traffic jams and inconvenience for commuters.
Local organizations along with residents demanded the immediate rollback of the revised tax. The protest was not limited to Nangal alone. Demonstrations also took place in Mehatpur, Garhshankar (Gadarmora), and other adjoining areas, where people blocked roads by sitting on highways.
The situation escalated to the extent that the Dharamshala–Chandigarh route was also affected. Authorities had to divert vehicles through alternate routes, with traffic from Una and Nangal being redirected towards Santokhgarh.
