Probe Intensifies Against Bikram Majithia: Ex-ED Officer Records Statement

Claims High Court ordered action, but state government failed to follow through

Punjab : The investigation against senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia has gained momentum, with statements now being recorded from key officials involved in earlier phases of the case. A former Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer has given a detailed deposition, claiming that the Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed the state government to act on drug-related charges against Majithia, but the administration failed to comply.

According to sources close to the matter, the retired ED officer submitted a written statement asserting that the agency had gathered sufficient material in earlier probes and that a clear directive had come from the High Court to proceed with necessary legal action. However, he alleged, “Political pressure or deliberate inaction led to no substantial steps being taken against Majithia.”

The ongoing investigation pertains to Majithia’s alleged involvement in the multi-crore drug racket that rocked Punjab nearly a decade ago. He had earlier been booked under the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) and granted bail, but opposition parties and activists have continued to demand a deeper probe.

This new statement by the ex-ED officer has triggered political tremors in Punjab, with opposition leaders accusing the state government of shielding powerful figures. Congress and AAP leaders are demanding an explanation from the ruling government over the inaction despite judicial instructions.

In response, Shiromani Akali Dal has claimed that the entire case is politically motivated and part of a vendetta campaign. Majithia, too, has consistently denied any wrongdoing and accused the government of using investigative agencies as tools of harassment.

Legal experts believe the statement by a former ED official could prompt the court to reopen hearings or demand further clarification from the state’s enforcement departments. The matter is expected to escalate in the coming weeks, especially as pressure mounts on the government to demonstrate transparency and uphold judicial directions.
