“Preposterous lies” spread by Congress leaders to cover up their role in Punjab crisis: Captain

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) In a fresh attack on Congress, former Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday accused party leaders of spreading “preposterous lies” about him in a bid to cover up their mismanagement amid Punjab’s political crisis.

The statement by Captain came hours after party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala claimed that 78 of 79 party MLAs had sought his removal from the post.

“Preposterous lies being floated by various party leaders in a clear bid to cover up their mishandling of the crisis in the party,” Singh said in the statement shared by his media advisor Raveen Thukral on Twitter.

The former CM expressed astonishment on Surjewala’s claim, especially when a day ago, Congress’ in-charge for Punjab, Harish Rawat had claimed that 43 Punjab state MLAs had demanded the party leadership seeking Captain’s ouster via a letter.

Rejecting the charges that he had lost the confidence of the MLAs, Singh said the Congress leaders cannot even “coordinate their lies properly.”

“It seems the entire party has become imbued with Navjot Singh Sidhu’s sense of comic theatrics. Next, they will claim that 117 MLAs wrote to them against me,” he quipped in the statement.

“The Congress was in a total state of disarray, and the crisis seemed to be escalating by the day, with a large majority of its senior leaders completely disenchanted with the party’s functioning. The fact of the matter was that the 43-odd MLAs who had signed the said letter had been forced to do so under duress,” Captain said further.

Singh had quit the post of Punjab CM on September 18 after a tussle with former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. He had said that he felt “humiliated” in the way the party favoured Sidhu and sidelined him.
