Istanbul: A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit near Gaziantep in southern Turkey on Monday, the US Geological Service said.
Fifteen persons have been dead and 16 buildings are reported to have collapsed with impact of the earthquake in the area. Reports are that earthquake impact has killed 39 persons in neighboring Syria. More details are awaited.
The quake struck at 04:17 am local time (0117 GMT) at a depth of about 17.9 kilometres.
