PM Modi meets Israeli President, urges early, lasting Palestine resolution

DUBAI: Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a fruitful meeting on Friday during which the latter reaffirmed India’s support for dialogue and diplomacy as a means of resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict quickly and permanently.

Here in the UAE, during the COP28 World Climate Action Summit, Modi had a meeting with Herzog.

Spokesman for the External Affairs Ministry Arindam Bagchi said on X that the prime minister hailed the release of hostages and offered his condolences for the lives lost in the heinous events of October 7.

Herzog and Modi discussed their respective perspectives on the region’s continuing Israel-Hamas conflict.

According to Bagchi, “the Prime Minister emphasized the need for ongoing, secure humanitarian aid delivery to the affected population.”

Modi emphasized that India is in favor of diplomatic talks and a two-state solution as well as an early and lasting settlement of the Israel-Palestine conflict.

“Earlier today, I had a really fruitful conversation with Israeli President @Isaac_Herzog. Many bilateral and international topics were discussed during our discussions,” Modi tweeted.

“The two leaders discussed the ongoing confrontation between Israel and Hamas in the region. The Ministry of External Affairs released a press statement saying, “The Prime Minister expressed his condolences for the lives lost in the terror attacks on October 7 and welcomed the release of hostages.”

The necessity for the impacted population to continue receiving humanitarian help in a safe manner was emphasized by the prime minister.

According to the release, he emphasized India’s support for a two-state solution as well as an early and lasting resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict through diplomatic talks.
