Lucknow, Nov 20(UNI) Prime minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the second day session in the 56th All India DGP-IGP Conference here at the UP police headquarters on Saturday.
PM Modi arrived at the Signature building of the UP police at around 0930. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and NSA chief Ajit Doval received the PM.
The PM and Mr Shah remained there for the entire day in the conference and attended all the sessions. They also watched all the presentations given by different states and central agencies.
The PM and other dignitaries were also slated to have dinner with the delegates.
On Sunday, PM Modi is likely to address the conference before returning back to Delhi .
On Friday, Union Hone minister Amit Shah inaugurated the three days 56th DGsP/IGsP Conference.
In his address, Mr Shah appreciated the role played by security forces during the COVID pandemic and for the sacrifices made by them.
He also sought better coordination between the State Police and other Central security agencies.
He emphasised on the need to focus on security-related issues including coastal security, Left Wing Extremism, Narcotics Trafficking, Cyber-crime and Border Area Management. Mr Shah hailed the hybrid format of Conference as directed by the Prime Minister and observed that this will help in better dissemination and percolation of suggestions at the cutting edge level. He emphasised on reforms at Police Station and Beat level for effective policing.
Deliberations were also held on a wide range of Internal Security issues, including prison reforms, challenges posed by radicalisation and police training.
The conference this year is being organised for the first time in hybrid mode. DGsP of all States/UTs and DGs of CAPFs are attending at the Police Headquarters here.
In addition, about 350 other officers are attending the same through virtual platform from IB offices in various States and UTs, an official statement said.
Mr Shah also awarded trophies for three best Police Stations to the Station House Officers of Sadar Bazaar in New Delhi, Gangapur in Odisha and Bhattu Kalan in Haryana.
Since 2014, the DGsP/IGsP Conference has been held in various parts of the country. The Prime Minister and Home Minister have been regularly attending these conferences being held outside Delhi. The format of the conference has undergone significant changes over the years in terms of duration as well as the mode of conducting the same.
In the run-up to the conference, various core groups consisting of DGPs of different states were formed for holding discussions on key aspects of internal security. This year, for the first time over 200 officers of different ranks from various States/UTs were also requested to submit papers on contemporary security issues being deliberated in the conference.
