New Delhi, March 2 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday spoke on the phone with Russian
President Vladimir Putin and discussed the safe evacuation of the Indian nationals from the conflict-ridden areas of Ukraine. “The leaders reviewed the situation, especially in the city of Kharkiv where many Indian students are stuck,” the PMO said in a statement. With concerns being raised about the safety of Indian students in areas like Kharkiv, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also chaired a high-level meeting in the evening to discuss the crisis. The meeting was attended by Union Ministers like S Jaishankar, Piyush Goyal, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and officials of the agencies. The focus of the Prime Minister was to expedite the evacuation of Indian nationals from areas where fighting has intensified, sources said. Giving out an update on status of Operation Ganga, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted those 9 flights took off on Wednesday from Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Poland. He further said that 6 more flights are expected to depart shortly. “Altogether, will bring back more than 3000 Indian nationals,” he said in a tweet late in the evening.
