Chandigarh: To create awareness on obesity a team of doctors from PARK Hospital Mohali, addressed the media persons on Friday. Present on the occasion were; Dr Amit Garg senior associate director Bariatric & Metabolic surgery and Dr Vimal Vibhakar, senior consultant general surgery and medical director.
Dr Amit Garg said, “A recent study puts an alarming 70 percent of India’s urban population in the obese or overweight bracket taking the country right in the middle of a fat explosion.”
He further shared that according to a study published in the noted journal Lancet, India is just behind the US and China in this global hazard list of top 10 countries with the highest number of obese people according to a hospital press note.
PARK Hospitals is North India’s biggest super specialty hospital network with 19 hospitals , 3500 beds, 800 ICU beds , 14 cath labs, 45 modular OTs and over 1000 doctors.
Dr Vimal Vibhakar said “It is a common myth that, “Obesity is a rich man’s disease. In reality, obesity is not only caused due to over-eating, but also due to adopting wrong eating habits. Therefore, obesity can affect both rich and poor altogether. Losing even 5-10 percent of your weight can delay or prevent some of the diseases discussed above.
