New Delhi : Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has expressed a desire for broader and comprehensive talks with India addressing multiple issues including water disputes The remarks come amid lingering tensions between the two countries following past military conflicts along their shared border Dar highlighted that although the current situation at the border remains relatively stable the relationship between India and Pakistan continues to be strained

The Foreign Minister pointed out that Pakistan is facing a severe water shortage especially after the termination of the Indus Water Treaty which has further complicated the water crisis between the two neighbors Dar emphasized that Pakistan seeks dialogue that goes beyond just terrorism and security concerns He stated that India appears focused only on discussing terrorism issues whereas Pakistan wants to address a wider range of topics including water sharing and other bilateral matters

In a press conference held in Islamabad Dar reiterated that while Pakistan is ready for talks and discussions it is not rushing into any negotiations He said that Pakistan remains open to dialogue but will not be pressured or hurried The Foreign Minister also mentioned that the chances of renewed military conflict between the two nations are very low despite the existing tensions He conveyed optimism that diplomatic engagement could ease hostilities and build a more stable relationship

The water crisis has emerged as a critical issue for Pakistan given its dependence on rivers flowing from India The expiry of the Indus Water Treaty has raised concerns about water security in Pakistan making talks on this subject urgent Pakistan’s stance reflects a desire for peaceful resolution and comprehensive cooperation to avoid further escalation

Both countries have experienced decades of conflict and mistrust but the current statements from Pakistani leadership suggest a willingness to engage in constructive dialogue if India agrees to discuss multiple important issues However India’s emphasis on counterterrorism continues to be a sticking point in negotiations

International observers and stakeholders will be closely watching how these diplomatic efforts evolve and whether they lead to tangible progress in improving bilateral relations and resolving longstanding disputes
