Pakistan and China sign six agreements to accelerate CPEC’s 2nd phase

Pakistan and China have signed six agreements to speed up their cooperation as part of the second phase of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). India is opposed to the construction of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which will lay pipelines through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on their way to connect Gwadar Port in Pakistan’s Balochistan province with Xinjiang province in China.

ISLAMABAD: The all-weather strategic ties between the “iron brothers” were further cemented on Monday as Pakistan and China signed six important documents to help carry out the second phase of the USD 60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects under a new model.

The signing ceremony was conducted here to commemorate the CPEC’s tenth anniversary. The CPEC is a collection of infrastructure and other projects that have been under construction throughout Pakistan since 2013.

India opposes the CPEC because it passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and connects Gwadar Port in Balochistan, Pakistan, with Xinjiang, China.

Vice Premier in his speech He delivered the message of China’s steadfast support for Pakistan’s prosperity and development that President Xi Jinping had sent.

He emphasised that the friendship between Pakistan and China was exceptional and had endured the vicissitudes of time because of the strong fraternal links between the peoples of the two countries. He is a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the ruling Communist Party.

He reaffirmed that China, Pakistan’s “iron brother and strategic partner,” would continue to provide the country with the current level of economic and financial support.

Additionally, he expressed Beijing’s readiness to increase Pakistan’s food and agricultural exports to China.

A protocol of phytosanitary requirements for the export of dry chillies from Pakistan to China, a document on the final report on the feasibility study of realignment of KKH Phase II, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on establishing an export exchange mechanism within the framework of CPEC, and a document on the joint cooperation committee on CPEC were also signed by the two nations.

Additionally, an MoU on the programme for the exchange of industrial employees was signed by both parties via diplomatic channels. The documents were signed with joy, and Prime Minister Sharif thanked the Chinese Vice-Premier for coming to Pakistan to mark the CPEC’s tenth anniversary.
