Chandigarh : An overnight downpour disrupted normal life in Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula, bringing flood-like conditions in many areas.
The heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, began Thursday night and continued into the early hours of Friday. Many parts of the tricity were submerged under knee-deep water, with major roads and junctions flooded due to inadequate drainage. Several road stretches in Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula suffered extensive damage and were closed to traffic.
Though residents woke up to sunny weather, Thursday night’s heavy rainfall caused massive traffic jams and chaos across the region. Key areas like Madhya Marg grid, Tribune Chowk, and Transport Chowk in Chandigarh witnessed long queues of vehicles. Roads leading to Panchkula, the railway station, and the IT Park were closed after sustaining damage.
Reports also came in of trees and electric poles falling on vehicles and public property, disrupting power and water supply in several locations.
