Our visit honors commitment to support Taiwan’s Democracy: Pelosi
Taiwan important US partner in Indo-Pacific, adds Nancy Pelosi
Taipei: US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday landed in Taiwan amid strong protests by China and said that her visit ”honors America’s unwavering commitment to supporting Taiwan’s vibrant Democracy”.
Shortly after her arrival, she took to twitter and wrote: “Our delegation’s visit to Taiwan honors America’s unwavering commitment to supporting Taiwan’s vibrant Democracy.”
“Our discussions with Taiwan leadership reaffirm our support for our partner and promotes our shared interests, including advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” Pelosi added.
This is the first high-level delegation visit from US to Taiwan in 25 years.
Meanwhile, China strongly condemned her visit and said it ”severely undermine China-US relations”.
“Visit to Taiwan by Speaker #Pelosi would constitute a gross interference in China’s internal affairs, greatly threaten peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, severely undermine China-US relations and lead to a very serious situation and grave consequences,” said the Chinese foreign ministry.
