Now the services of specialist doctors will be taken for 68 years

Shimla: Interested specialist doctors in all the medical colleges of Himachal will now be given re-employment for 68 years after retirement. The state government has changed the policy for this. Earlier, only in Shimla’s IGMC and Kangra’s Tanda Medical College, doctors who retired at the age of 62 were given re-employment for three years and their services were taken for 65 years. In a change in the policy, the government has now decided to provide re-employment to the willing doctors serving in Hamirpur, Nerchowk, Nahan and Chamba Medical Colleges for three years after their retirement at the age of 65 years. These doctors will now be able to provide services for 68 years.

The Health Department issued a notification regarding this on Monday. The policy also provides that the doctors of IGMC and Tanda will be re-employed only after the refusal of the specialist doctors who retired from Chamiyana, Nerchowk, Hamirpur, Chamba and Nahan medical colleges. They can also be removed after specialist doctors are deployed in medical colleges. There is a shortage of specialist doctors in Himachal Pradesh. Except IGMC and Tanda, there are no specialists in the other four medical colleges. Anyway, specialist doctors open their own clinics after retirement. These doctors keep treating patients for years.
