Non-Bailable Charges for Hospital Fights in Punjab
DGP directs regular patrols and safety measures for healthcare facilities….
Chandigarh : In a major move to curb violence in hospitals, the Punjab government has decided to file non-bailable charges for any altercations or fights that take place within healthcare facilities. This decision comes after several incidents of violence have been reported in hospitals across the state. The state’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, has issued strict instructions to ensure that incidents involving physical altercations in hospitals are dealt with severely, including the imposition of non-bailable charges.
Additionally, DGP Yadav has instructed that PCR (Police Control Room) vans conduct regular patrols around health centers to enhance security and prevent such incidents. The Punjab Police have been given the responsibility to maintain a visible presence at these healthcare facilities, offering immediate response in case of any untoward incidents. This measure is seen as an attempt to create a safer environment for both healthcare workers and patients.
The decision is a response to increasing instances of violence in Punjab’s hospitals, which have been a growing concern. The state’s Health Minister has also spoken out about the need for stronger measures to ensure the safety of doctors and medical staff. Among the proposed measures is the installation of CCTV cameras in all major hospitals across the state. The Health Minister emphasized that this would not only act as a deterrent but would also provide evidence in case of any criminal activities.
The government’s crackdown on hospital violence has been welcomed by healthcare professionals who have long been demanding better protection while performing their duties. Doctors have expressed concern about their safety, especially in emergency situations where they are vulnerable to violent attacks by patients’ relatives or other individuals.
Punjab’s decision to impose non-bailable charges aims to address the issue more aggressively, sending a clear message that violence in hospitals will not be tolerated. With additional security measures and regular police presence, the government hopes to reduce incidents of violence and ensure that healthcare professionals can perform their duties without fear of attack.
