New Six-Storey Block Approved for PGI

Chandigarh : Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) is set to expand its Advanced Eye Centre (AEC) with the construction of a new six-storey building. The project has been approved with a budget allocation of ₹98 crore. This development aims to provide significant relief to patients suffering from eye-related ailments by enhancing the hospital’s capacity and infrastructure.

The new block will include four state-of-the-art operation theatres dedicated to complex eye surgeries. This expansion is expected to increase the number of surgeries performed daily and reduce the waiting time for patients. The AEC currently serves thousands of patients every month, and this addition will help accommodate the growing demand for specialized ophthalmic care.

Besides surgical facilities, the new block will house advanced diagnostic equipment, patient wards, and outpatient departments.
