Opposition alliance INDIA MPs visit Manipur on Saturday.
On Saturday, several Members of Parliament of the opposition alliance INDIA will travel to Manipur. Ahead of the visit, the deputy leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, called for an investigation into the violence in Manipur to be headed by a retired judge from the Supreme Court.
IMPHAL: On Saturday, a delegation of 21 MPs from the opposition INDIA party is scheduled to travel here for a two-day visit to Manipur to study the situation there at the moment given the state’s history of racial unrest.
The team, which includes Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, would offer suggestions to the government and Parliament for resolving Manipur’s issues based on their observations.
Before the visit, Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, demanded that a retired Supreme Court judge conduct an investigation into the unrest in Manipur.
Friday in New Delhi, Congress MP and Rajya Sabha whip Naseer Hussain announced that MPs from 16 different parties would visit impacted communities and individuals in both the valley and the hills.
In order to evaluate the situation, they would also visit two relief camps in each location.
On Sunday morning, the team will also meet with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey.
