RSS condoles Kalyan Singh's death, calls him a proud Swayamesvak
New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) condoled the death of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh, calling him a proud Swayamsevak, who fulfilled his duty in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
“The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh expresses its deep condolences on the demise of former Governor and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, popular public leader Shri Kalyan Singh,” RSS said in a tweet.
A statement by the organisation said Singh was a proud ‘Swayamsevak” of the Sangh, and dedicated to Hindutva. While remembering his contribution to strengthening BJP in Uttar Pradesh, it said he worked for empowering weaker sections of the society.
“He was a grounded politician and an efficient administrator… He was devoted to Hindutva, Bhagwan Shri Ram and Bharatiya values,” the RSS said.
“He had become a people’s leader after fulfilling his national conscientiousness in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He was proud to be a Sangh Swayamsevak. He played an important role in strengthening the BJP organisation in Uttar Pradesh as a worker and a leader,” the statement said.
“He worked for the welfare of weaker sections of the society and always kept public welfare paramount”.
The statement was signed by RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat and General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale.
Singh, 89, died in Lucknow after prolonged illness on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adtiyanath, and several other top politicians paid their tributes to the leader.
He was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice — from June 1991 to December 1992 – the period in which the Babri Masjid was demolished, and from September 1997 to November 1999. He also served as Governor of Rajasthan between 2014 and 2019.
