Mandi Lok Sabha:12,661 NOTA votes swayed against BJP’s Khushal Thakur
Margin of victory for Congress' victor Pratibha Singh was 7,490
Shimla, Nov 3(UNI) The recent mandate in the by election in Himachal Pradesh indicates that people of the state are in search of better options in the 2022 Assembly Election, Mr. Ratnesh Gupta state in-charge of Aam Aadmi Party (HP) said on Wednesday.
The Aam Aadmi Party did not participate in the by-elections held in the state, but the party has done the groundwork of defeating the BJP by its mere call to the people of the state.
The party in charge said that they have appealed to the people along with party workers on October 26 itself to press the button of NOTA.
He had said that by choosing ‘NOTA’, people should send a message to the BJP and Congress that their politics of give and take has come to an end.
The Mandi Lok Sabha seat was a question of prestige for both the parties. The margin of victory for Congress was 7,490, while 12,661 people made it clear by pressing the button of NOTA that they are ready for the third option.
The winning margin was one percent and NOTA was 1.68 percent.
In Arki assembly, three per cent voters opted for NOTA.
Talking to reporters on the issue of NOTA, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur himself also admitted that people’s inclination towards NOTA is a matter of concern, he said.
Party in-charge Ratnesh Gupta said that the public is suffering and fed up with the politics of both the BJP and Congress and in such a situation the only alternative before the people are Aam Aadmi Party which is slowly emerging as a ray of hope among them.
The public opinion is clear that it is ready for a new and stronger alternative, he added.
