Mohali : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has intensified its probe against senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in the disproportionate assets case, tightening the noose ahead of a significant step in the investigation. Sources confirmed that the former Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will appear before the vigilance team tomorrow at the Mohali office.

This move marks a critical point in the case, as the ex-ED official is expected to present key documents and share details from the financial investigations conducted during his tenure, particularly around the 2014 inquiry that first flagged discrepancies in Majithia’s asset declarations.

Vigilance officials are focusing on alleged assets amassed by Majithia that reportedly exceed his known sources of income. The inquiry includes suspected benami properties, overseas transactions, and links with shell companies. The ex-ED officer is likely to shed light on cross-border financial activities that may have been overlooked or left unverified in past investigations.

Majithia, a powerful figure in Punjab politics and a former cabinet minister, has continued to deny any wrongdoing. He claims the current investigation is politically motivated and aimed at defaming him before the 2027 state elections. The Shiromani Akali Dal has termed the case a vendetta by the ruling government.

Meanwhile, the Vigilance Bureau has reportedly collected a large volume of property records, bank statements, and transaction data. Officials are also examining financial links between Majithia and certain businesses that came under scrutiny during the earlier ED probe.

The reactivation of this case comes in the backdrop of growing public pressure for transparency and accountability in political offices. Legal experts suggest the involvement of a former central agency officer adds credibility and weight to the ongoing investigation.

Security around the Mohali Vigilance Office has been increased in anticipation of media and political presence during the ex-ED officer’s appearance. No official statement has yet been released by the Vigilance Bureau regarding the expected timeline for further proceedings.

The developments have again pushed Majithia into the spotlight, with both political circles and civil society closely watching how the investigation unfolds in the days to come.
