Mahindra Discontinues 8 Variants of Thar…
Check the Updated Variant List and Prices Before Buying..
Mahindra has made a significant update to its popular off-roader SUV, the Thar, by discontinuing eight of its variants. This decision comes as part of the company’s effort to streamline the Thar lineup and focus on more in-demand and strategically aligned models. If you are planning to buy a Thar, it is important to know which variants are no longer available and what the current options are in terms of pricing and features.
The discontinued variants include a mix of AX (Optional) and LX trims with both petrol and diesel engine options, primarily in 4×4 configurations. This move could be aimed at optimizing production and catering to the growing popularity of the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Thar, which was introduced last year and received an enthusiastic market response due to its lower pricing and wider appeal. The RWD version has allowed Mahindra to target urban buyers who want the Thar’s rugged look without the higher cost and fuel consumption associated with the 4×4 system.
With these changes, the current Thar lineup has become more focused and possibly more efficient in meeting customer expectations. The base variant of the Thar now starts around ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom), and the top-end variants go up to ₹17 lakh, depending on the configuration and engine option. Customers now have a clearer picture of what is available and can choose between petrol and diesel options, RWD and 4WD, as well as between manual and automatic transmissions.
Industry experts believe that Mahindra’s decision is influenced by the changing preferences of Indian SUV buyers. While hardcore off-roading enthusiasts still prefer 4×4 options, the average buyer is looking for a lifestyle vehicle that offers style, space, and everyday usability. By eliminating the less popular variants, Mahindra can also potentially reduce waiting periods, improve production efficiency, and enhance the overall ownership experience.
As the competition in the compact and lifestyle SUV segment intensifies, Mahindra’s strategic realignment of the Thar variants might be a step toward staying ahead in the game. If you’re in the market for a Mahindra Thar, be sure to review the latest variant list and pricing before making a decision, as the SUV continues to evolve with changing market dynamics.
