Maheshwar Singh denied ticket by BJP in Himachal
It may be a strategic step as his son Hiteshwar is fighting as independent
Two prominent Congress leaders join BJP in HP; Maj. Vijay Singh Mankotia (Shahpur) and Rakesh Singh (Gagret) left Congress today
Hamirpur (HP): In an unprecedented development, the BJP high command on Tuesday denied a ticket to Maheshwar Singh, former MP from Kullu assembly constituency and gave party ticket to Narottam Thakur, a former lecturer.
This follows the filing of nomination papers by Hiteshwar Singh, the son of Maheshwara Singh from Banjar seat of Kullu district as an independent candidate. This annoyed the party high command and as such the ticket of Maheshwar Singh was withdrawn.
The Kullu seat is facing another development as another senior party leader; Ram Singh has also filed his papers from the Kullu seat. Efforts were on to persuade him to withdraw from the contest but have failed so far.
Meanwhile, two prominent Congress party leaders of Una and Kangra districts joined BJP giving a big jolt to the Congress party. Those who joined the BJP are Major Vijay Singh Mankotia (Shahpur) and Rakesh Kalia (Gagret).
Mankotia, a powerful leader of Kangra district, joined the BJP at Vijaypur at the residence of All India BJP chief, JP Nadda. He joined in the presence of Harsh Mahajan, another former Congress party minister who had joined the BJP recently in New Delhi.
