Animated film outshines Coolie and War 2 at the box office....
Mumbai — Animated epic Mahavatar Narsimha has stunned the Indian film industry by crossing the ₹300 crore mark at the worldwide box office. Despite competition from big releases like Coolie and War 2, the film has emerged as one of the year’s biggest hits.
Made on a budget of just ₹40 crore, the film has collected ₹238.25 crore net (₹282.50 crore gross) in India by day 35 of its release. Overseas earnings have crossed $3 million, bringing its total collection close to ₹310 crore.
With these numbers, Mahavatar Narsimha has become the highest-grossing Indian animated feature ever, leaving behind Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan which made only ₹30 crore globally. It has also surpassed Hollywood animated releases in India, including Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which earned ₹56 crore.
The film has now overtaken the lifetime collections of several live-action blockbusters such as Sooryavanshi (₹300 crore) and The Kerala Story (₹304 crore).
Directed by debutant Ashwin Kumar and backed by Hombale Films, Mahavatar Narsimha marks the beginning of the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, a planned seven-part saga based on the avatars of Lord Vishnu. Its success with family audiences and children has ensured sequels will follow soon.
