Sangli: In a surprised move, the people of Tinkodi village in Jat tehsil of this district on Saturday took out a ‘padyatra’ (march) expressing their support to Karnataka Chief Minister Basvaraj Bommai for staking claim on 40 villages in the tehsil.
The Tinkodi village in Jat tehsil is just three kilometres away from Vijayapura (Bijapur) district in neighboring Karnataka.
The villagers of this village today took out a ‘padyatra’ carrying with them digital boards of Bommai’s photos and Karnataka flag, from gram panchayat office to ST bus stand amidst sloganeering expressing their desire to merge with Karnataka.
They wish to be incorporated into the neighboring state after the Karnataka government released water from Tubachi-Bableshwar water scheme into the village tank for the last three years and has given various facilities and grants to the village.
On the contrary, the Maharashtra government and all political parties gave only promises of providing water from Mhaishal scheme for last 50 years but no avail.
Frustrated over this, the Tinkodi villagers whole-heartedly expressed their support to Bommai, wishing to merge with Karnataka.
Upon getting information of the ‘padyatra’, the local police rushed to the spot, dispersed the villagers and took away all digital boards and flags.
Villagers said that they would pass a new resolution calling for Tinkodi’s merger with Karnataka. (UNI)
