Ludhiana : As the Ludhiana by-election draws near, campaigning for the seat will officially conclude today, marking the end of public rallies and promotional activities by political parties. The enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct will tighten further, with a ban on political gatherings and door-to-door canvassing from this evening. This move comes ahead of the crucial voting day scheduled for June 19, for which the local administration has already declared a public holiday to ensure maximum voter turnout.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), one of the major contenders in this bypoll, is scheduled to hold a press conference in the afternoon. The party has been aggressively campaigning to retain or gain influence in the region, especially after its performance in recent state elections. Other major parties, including Congress and BJP, have also made last-minute efforts to sway undecided voters.
In preparation for polling day, authorities have ordered the closure of all liquor outlets in Ludhiana city and surrounding areas starting this evening. This prohibition will remain in effect until the conclusion of voting to maintain peace and order during the electoral process. Police teams and surveillance have been increased in sensitive zones, with security forces conducting flag marches in certain high-risk areas.
The Election Commission has made all necessary arrangements for smooth and fair voting. More than a thousand polling booths have been set up across the constituency, with adequate deployment of staff and electronic voting machines. Special provisions have been made for senior citizens and persons with disabilities to facilitate easy voting access.
The local administration has urged citizens to come out and vote responsibly. A strict watch will be maintained over attempts at voter bribery, distribution of cash or gifts, or any form of intimidation. Flying squads and surveillance teams have been deployed for real-time monitoring.
The Ludhiana by-election is being closely watched as it is expected to reflect public sentiment toward both state and central governance. Voter turnout, margin of victory, and party performance will be analyzed for implications ahead of the next general elections.
