Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar: DC-cum-District Election Officer Mrs. Komal Mittal informed that the polling for the Local Bodies Elections across Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district was conducted peacefully, smoothly and successfully today under adequate security arrangements.
She stated that out of the total 4,80,782 registered voters in the district, as many as 2,63,031 voters exercised their franchise, registering an overall voter turnout of 55.54 percent. Polling was held for Mu
nicipal Corporation Mohali and the Municipal Councils of Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, Banur, Lalru, Kurali and Naya Gaon.
Sharing the constituency-wise polling percentages, the DC Mittal informed that Municipal Corporation Mohali recorded 54.84 percent polling, Dera Bassi 57.09 percent, Kurali 64.27 percent, Banur 72.86 percent, Zirakpur 48.27 percent, Naya Gaon 58.25 percent and Lalru 69.34 percent voter turnout.
Mrs. Mittal further stated that elaborate arrangements had been made by the district administration to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling throughout the district. Senior officers remained deployed in the field throughout the day to monitor the election process and ensure smooth conduct of polling activities.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans also remained actively present in the field during the elections and visited various polling stations to review security arrangements and maintain law and order in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that all ballot boxes have been safely secured in designated strong rooms under prescribed security arrangements. The counting of votes will be undertaken on May 29.
The designated strong rooms and counting centres in the district include Office of Market Committee Banur, Community Hall at Office of Municipal Council Kurali, Century Public School Karoran (Naya Gaon), Community Centre Chatt, Government College Dera Bassi, Government Senior Secondary School Lalru, Community Centre Phase-7 SAS Nagar and Community Centre Sector-69 SAS Nagar.
