Lawrence Bishnoi Acquitted in 2021 Extortion Case

Faridkot : A local court has acquitted jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in a four-year-old extortion case, citing a lack of evidence. The case, registered in July 2021 under IPC Sections 387, 506, and 120-B, was based on a complaint by a Kotkapura-based cloth shop owner, who alleged that gangster Goldy Brar had demanded ₹50 lakh from him.
Bishnoi, currently in Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail, was produced via video conferencing. The court noted that the prosecution failed to prove his involvement beyond a reasonable doubt. The complainant retracted his statement, claiming he did not know Bishnoi, while a key police witness turned hostile.

With no substantial evidence, the court acquitted Bishnoi, but proceedings against Goldy Brar will continue once he is arrested or surrenders. Brar remains absconding in the case.
