Last rites of Lt. Col. Harjinder Singh performed
New Delhi, Dec 12: The rites of Lieutenant Colonel Harjinder Singh, who died in the tragic helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu last week, was performed by his daughter at Barar Square in Delhi on Sunday with full military honours.
On Wednesday, an Indian Air Force helicopter crashed near Coonoor that killed thirteen, including India’s first Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others.
Tributes were paid to Lt. Col Harjinder Singh, by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and military officers.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid his last respect to Lt Col. Harjinder Singh and consoled the bereaved family.
Singh, in a tweet, wrote, “Paid tribute to Lt. Colonel Harjinder Singh who died in the tragic helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu. His untimely demise is extremely saddening. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. May God give them strength to bear this massive loss.”
Earlier in the day, Defence Minister while addressing ‘Swarnim Vijay Parv’, commemorating 50 years of India’s victory in 1971 war, at India Gate here paid rich tributes to Gen Rawat, his wife and 11 others, who died in a chopper crash.
Talking about IAF Group Captain Varun Singh, lone survivor of the chopper crash, Singh said “He is undergoing treatment in Bangalore. I have been in constant touch with his father. We all pray for his speedy recovery.”
