Kuwait’s Haitham Al-Ghais elected new secretary general of OPEC

Kuwait City, Jan 3 (UNI/Sputnik) The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries has elected Haitham Al-Ghais, the candidate of the Kuwaiti delegation, as its new secretary general, an OPEC source told Sputnik on Monday.

According to the source, Al-Ghais was the only candidate. He will assume office in August for three years.
Iraq is the fourth largest oil producer among OPEC countries with over 2,438,000 barrels per day production, after Saudi Arabia, Iraq and UAE,  being top three as per year 2000 data.
