Kolkata College Girl Raped After Refusing Proposal
Victim alleges video filming, assault with hockey stick; three accused linked to TMC…….
Kolkata: A shocking case of sexual assault has emerged from a Kolkata college where a young female student was allegedly gang-raped by three youths after she rejected a marriage proposal. The incident has sparked public outrage, particularly as all three accused are reported to have political links with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
According to the complaint lodged by the victim, the accused had been harassing her for several weeks and had proposed marriage. Upon her refusal, they lured her to a house under false pretenses, where the assault took place. She alleged that the trio not only raped her but also filmed the entire act and physically assaulted her using a hockey stick.
The 20-year-old victim, a second-year undergraduate student, stated in her FIR that she was threatened with dire consequences if she informed anyone. “They beat me with a hockey stick and said they would make the video viral if I spoke up,” the victim recounted while speaking to the media.
The Kolkata Police have arrested the three accused, who are said to be in their early 20s. Initial investigation reports suggest they are active workers or supporters of the local unit of TMC. However, TMC has distanced itself from the incident, claiming that the law should take its own course and the party does not support such individuals.
West Bengal Women’s Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and demanded a fast-track investigation. Chairperson Leena Gangopadhyay said, “This is not just a legal matter but a reflection of a dangerous social mindset. We demand justice for the girl at the earliest.”
The incident has also taken a political turn, with opposition parties like BJP and CPI(M) slamming the ruling party for its alleged sheltering of criminal elements. BJP state president demanded the resignation of top TMC leaders from the area and called for a CBI probe.
Meanwhile, student organizations held protests across the city demanding stricter action and the expulsion of the accused from their college.
The case has reignited the debate around women’s safety, misuse of political connections, and the need for fast-track courts to ensure timely justice in such heinous crimes.
