Kim shows Russian military minister North Korean drones and ICBMs

Kim demonstrates new intercontinental ballistic missiles and drones to the Russian defence minister. The accusation that the leader of North Korea has provided Russia with rockets and missiles, as stated by the United States, is one that Pyongyang has categorically refuted. The North Korean leader has been unwavering in his support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

SEOUL: On Thursday, Kim Jong Un offered a tour of North Korea’s newest and most sophisticated arsenal to Russia’s defence minister, passing enormous intercontinental ballistic missiles and rarely unseen military drones, according to official media.

Pictures in state media showed Kim escorting Sergei Shoigu through a massive defence exhibition showcasing the North’s nuclear missiles and what Seoul-based specialised site NK News claimed were new unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), after Washington earlier this year accused Pyongyang of providing Moscow with weapons for its war in Ukraine.

As the nation commemorates the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Korean War armistice on July 27, 1953, which ended open hostilities and is observed as Victory Day, Shoigu and a senior Chinese delegation are in Pyongyang as Kim’s first known foreign visitors since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The official Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim and Shoigu visited the “Weapons and Equipment Exhibition 2023” and shown images of the Hwasong-17 and Hwasong-18 solid-fuel ICBMs, two of North Korea’s heaviest intercontinental ballistic missiles.

One of the few countries Pyongyang keeps cordial ties with is Russia, a longtime ally of North Korea. Kim and Shoigu previously spoke on “matters of mutual concern in the field of national defence and security as well as on the regional and international security environment,” according to KCNA.
