Khelo India: Jammu Univ contingent leaves for University Games, Bangalore
Jammu, April 21: The 16-member squad of Men and Women in the fencing discipline left for Khelo India University Games to be held in Bangalore, Karnataka from April 22 to May 2. The University Fencing (Men) team qualified for the Sabre team event, Foil team event, Epee team event and Sabre individual event whereas, the women’s team qualified for the Sabre team event only. As per official communiqué, the contingent comprises of Parvinder Sharma (Epee and Foil Team event), Gourav Thakur (Epee and Foil Team event), Lakshay Sharma (Sabre Team event), Siddhant Raina (Sabre Team event), Parshant Chib (Foil Team event), Udhayveer Singh Chandel (Sabre Team and Sabre Individual event), Sawan (Epee and Foil Team event), Harsh Rajput (Epee Team event), Suryansh Sharma (Sabre Team event), Mokshika Rana (Women Sabre Team event), Jaspreet Kour (Women Sabre Team event), Riya Manhas (Women Sabre Team event) and Simran Rajput (Women Sabre Team event). Jammu University Hockey Coach Padam Dev Singh accompanied the team as Manager while Suniya Arora as a Manager and Maninder Pal Singh as a Coach. Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies University of Jammu distributed specially designed Sports Kits to the Contingent members. In her address, Prof Dingra congratulated the fencers for winning medals for the University in the All India Inter-University Fencing (M&W) Championship 2021-2022, which makes them eligible to participate in the Khelo India University Games 2022 and wished for successful participation. Earlier, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu briefed Prof. Dingra about the event and participation of the University teams in the Khelo India University Games 2022.
