Karnal SP Gets Additional Charge of Panipat..

Karnal : In a recent administrative development within the Haryana Police Department, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Karnal, Ganga Ram Punia, has been given additional charge of Panipat district. This move comes as the current Panipat SP, IPS officer Bhupendra Singh, has proceeded to Hyderabad for official training. The interim arrangement is expected to remain in place until May 14, after which Singh is likely to resume his post.

This temporary reshuffling has been initiated to ensure the smooth functioning of law and order in Panipat district during the absence of its regular police chief. Ganga Ram Punia is known for his firm handling of law enforcement duties and has previously held important posts in other districts. His current charge of Karnal will now be complemented by added responsibilities in Panipat, a district that has been witnessing increased administrative and traffic control challenges due to upcoming local events and summer movement.

Sources within the police department have indicated that Bhupendra Singh’s training in Hyderabad is part of a routine senior IPS officer development program focused on leadership, strategic operations, and modern policing methods. During his absence, Punia will oversee all core administrative, investigative, and law enforcement duties in Panipat.

This dual responsibility is not uncommon within the Haryana Police framework, especially when IPS officers are sent on deputation, training, or are on leave. Ganga Ram Punia has been briefed by senior officials regarding Panipat’s current crime statistics, personnel status, and community policing efforts. He is expected to carry out review meetings, public safety audits, and district patrol enhancements during this interim period.

Local officials and residents have welcomed the decision, expressing confidence in Punia’s experience and disciplined leadership. With the summer season often leading to increased cases of public disturbance, theft, and traffic snarls, the role of SP becomes all the more critical. The police department has assured that the dual role will not hamper efficiency and that dedicated assistant officers have been placed under SP Punia to manage the load effectively.
