Kapurthala / Punjab : The devastating floods in Punjab left thousands of families stranded and homeless, but one local industrialist has set a shining example of humanity. Pritpal Singh Hanspal, owner of Hanspal Traders in Kapurthala, temporarily halted his rail parts manufacturing business and, along with his team of 70 workers, built 100 boats within just seven days. Each boat carries the inscription — “Halimiya, hamdardia te muhabbata di kishti” (a boat created with compassion and love) — reflecting the true spirit of this initiative.

Pritpal Singh shared that the idea struck him when he saw people crying for help, asking for boats to save their families. “Punjab has given us so much. Now it is our turn to rise for Punjab,” he said with emotion.

His workers, too, stood firmly by his side, working 16 hours a day with full dedication. Foremen Jassa Singh, Malkit Singh, and others expressed pride in being part of a mission that directly supported flood victims. “When we learned this was for people in need, we felt honored to contribute,” one of them said.

Despite business losses due to halting production, Pritpal Singh made it clear that saving lives mattered more. “We work all year round. If giving up a few days can help those in need, then that is our true profit,” he remarked.

Looking ahead, he now plans to build prefabricated homes for displaced families. Consultations with architects and experts are underway to turn this idea into reality, offering flood victims not just boats, but a roof over their heads.

Kapurthala’s initiative has become a beacon of hope for Punjab’s flood-hit communities and a living example of compassion in action.
