Malappuram, April 22: Hosts Kerala beat Punjab by 2-1 to storm into the semifinals of the Santosh Trophy National Football Championship at Payyanad floodlit stadium on Friday. Kerala secured three points from the Group A encounter, taking their tally to 10 points from four matches. Meanwhile, Bengal are placed in second spot with 6 points. Player of the match and Kerala captain Jijo Joseph scored two goals. Punjab’s Manvir gave lead in the 12th minute but Joseph found the equalizer in the 17th minute and struck his second goal in the 86th minute of the game to ensure a semi-final berth for Kerala. Bengal will take on Rajasthan and Meghalaya will meet Punjab in their last group matches on April 24 to decide the second semifinalist from Group A. (UNI)
