Joe Root, Johney Bairstow synthesize their batting power to post 378*

Edgbaston: Overnight batting pair of Joe Root and Johney Bairstow ran thru’ the day 5 to finish a mammoth target, 378 runs to win the 5th and final match.  India led the series 2-1 i the unfinished series of 2021, when matches were halted due to rising Covid-19 cases and health risks for players and scarce presence of public in the stadia.

The two England batsmen who entered the scene when England could hardly imagine posting 378 run targets posted by India for victory to the hosts. England were 109/3 when last English batsman Pope fell to captain Jasprit Bumrah, caught by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant.

Together the two posted 269* for the 5th wkt. Joe Root with 142* and Bairstow 114* turned the tables on Indian thinktank, who had never imagined hosts will post 378 in 4th innings.

The series ended 2-2 (one match was drawn last year).
