New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) A delegation from the Jain community led by Acharya Lokesh Muni on Saturday met Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, alleging TMC MP Mahua Moitra of making a derogatory remark against the community in Parliament. The delegation demanded that the parliamentarian should apologize for her “Jain boy enjoying kathi kabab” remark in Lok Sabha on Friday, following which the Minister assured them to apprise the matter to LS Speaker Om Birla and termed it ‘unfortunate’. Addressing a joint press conference along with Acharya Lokesh Muni, the Minister said, “Jain community has an important contribution in building the country. It is unfortunate. I will take up the issue with LS Speaker and apprise about their demand that the MP should apologize in the House for her remark.” He said that any attack on the Jain community is not acceptable. “The MP’s statement in the temple of democracy against a particular community and linking it with non vegetarian food , is an ‘irreparable’ offence. She has hurt Jain religious sentiments. We expect that her statement should be removed from the record of Parliament. She should apologize in Parliament,” Jain Acharya said. He also informed that a separate memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and LS Speaker through the Minister was submitted in this regard.
