Tehran: In a fiery statement that has stirred political tension, a top Iranian cleric has issued a fatwa against former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He called on Muslims worldwide to unite and “make them regret their actions,” accusing both leaders of crimes against the Muslim world.

The fatwa — a religious decree — was delivered during a sermon at a major mosque in Tehran. The cleric, whose identity has not been officially disclosed by the state media, referred to Trump and Netanyahu as “symbols of oppression and bloodshed in Palestine and across the Middle East.”

He further said, “They must be forced to repent, not just politically, but emotionally. The Muslim world has remained silent for too long. It is time to rise as one and respond with strength and unity.”

The cleric’s comments appear to be in response to recent escalations in Gaza and continued U.S.-Israel alignment on policies affecting the region. He accused the two leaders of spreading instability and hatred, and claimed that “true resistance” is the only answer.

Iran has long maintained a hostile stance toward both the U.S. and Israel, but such direct religious declarations from senior clerics often signal a larger political message from the Iranian establishment. While the fatwa does not directly incite violence, its language has been described by analysts as “aggressive and provocative.”

The sermon also included a call to the Islamic nations to put aside sectarian differences and form a united front. “Shia or Sunni, Arab or non-Arab, this is no longer about borders. This is about our dignity,” the cleric said, urging youth to educate themselves and stand against what he termed “modern-day tyranny.”

So far, there has been no official reaction from the U.S. or Israeli governments. However, global observers are monitoring the situation closely, as such statements often fuel political and diplomatic friction.

This development comes at a time when tensions in the Middle East are already high due to ongoing conflicts and regional instability, and could have wider geopolitical repercussions depending on how other nations and groups respond.
