Iran reports 31,516 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, 4,924,964 in total
Tehran, Aug 29 (UNI/Xinhua) Iran’s health ministry on Sunday reported 31,516 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country’s total infections to 4,924,964.
The pandemic has so far claimed 106,482 lives in the country, after 581 new deaths were registered in the past 24 hours, said the update by Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education on Sunday.
A total of 4,146,742 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 7,877 remain in intensive care units, according to the ministry.
By Sunday, 18,261,245 people have received at least a dose of coronavirus vaccine in the country, while 7,914,881 have taken two doses.
Iran has been recently facing a resurgence of the pandemic. Health officials said that reasons for the sheer increase in infection rates since the end of June are the higher contagiousness of the Delta variant of the coronavirus currently spreading in Iran, and a decline in people’s awareness of observing health recommendations.
