CHANDIGARH: Nafe Singh Rathee, president of the Haryana Unit of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) along with one other party worker was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Bahadurgarh town in Jhajjar distract of Haryana near the national capital. Two others were injured.

Sources said that former MLA Rathee was shot by unidentified assailants in Bahadurgarh town of Jhajjar district and was seriously injured when he was travelling in his Toyota Fortuner (SUV). He was rushed to the hospital for treatment where he was declared brought dead.

Sources further said that the former MLA and one of his party worker was brought dead while two others were admitted to the ICU with gunshot wounds. Four people who had been shot were brought to Brahma Shakti Sanjeevani Hospital.

“Two people, Nafe Singh Rathee and JaiJishan who had suffered heavy blood loss were brought dead as the doctors tried to give them CPR but they could not be saved. Two others are admitted to the ICU with gunshot wounds on the shoulder, thigh and left side of the chest. The multiple wounds suggest there were multiple rounds of firing and thus major vessels got damaged causing heavy blood loss and eventually, heart attack,’’ said a doctor.

Demanding a CBI inquiry, senior INLD leader Abhay Chautala said that Rathee was shot dead in Jhajjar district. He said that one of the party workers, who was accompanying Rathi also died. “Nafe Singh Rathee has died. One of our party workers was with him, he has also died. A volley of bullets was sprayed at him,” Chautala said.

Chautala accused the BJP-JJP-led state government of failing to provide Rathee with security despite there being a threat to his life, and demanded the resignation of the chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and the state home minister Anil Vij. “Rathee, our two-time MLA and also our state unit chief, was not provided with security of Haryana Police. In writing, representations had been made to senior police officers and state home minister that he was facing threats and should be provided with security. Had he been provided with security, such a situation would not have arisen,’’ he said.

Abhay said three private gunmen, whom he had hired for security purpose, also received injuries.

He alleged that law and order had broken down in Haryana and today that has been proved yet again.
