Indore, May 7: In a new twist to the inferno that snuffed out seven lives and injured nine on Saturday within a three-storey building at Swarn Bagh Colony in Vijay Nagar Police Station limits of Madhya Pradesh’s commercial capital, analysis of CCTV footage revealed that the tragedy was triggered by a youth who poured an inflammable substance on a scooter in the parking area and set it afire during the intervening night. Preliminary reports blamed a short circuit. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had ordered an inquiry and announced ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin. Police said that the accused has been identified as Jhansi district-resident Ankit Dikshit alias Sanjay who was enamored of a young woman who resided in the building. Her marriage had been fixed elsewhere. Dikshit himself was a tenant until about six months back. The scooter also belonged to the woman’s relative. The perpetrator even attempted to tamper with the CCTV cameras. Law-enforcement teams have fanned out to execute an arrest. The victims are from different families and mostly tenants. (UNI)
