Indian origin Rishi Sunak nominated by Tories as next PM of Britain
London: The Conservative Party of England (also known as Tories) have nominated Indian origin Rishi Sunak as next Prime Minister of England, after two contestants Boris Johnson and Penny Mordant withdrew their names during the last 24 hours. As Sunak garnered the support of 193 3 MPs this morning, (more than 100 required for nomination), his immediate opponent in the Conservative Party, his name was given the final nod.
Mr. Sunak has India connection through his wife, Akshata Murty, the daughter of the billionaire co-founder of Infosys Narayana Murthy, he has been born, brought up and educated in
“I want to fix our economy, unite our party and deliver for our country,” the Indian-origin former chancellor said in a short statement confirming his widely
expected candidacy earlier.
Before withdrawing his candidature late last night, Mr. Johnson, 58, said that although he could have been “back in Downing Street”, but that he had failed to persuade either Mr. Sunak or Penny Mordaunt, to come together” in national interest”. (pic credits-MoneyControl)
