NEW DELHI: In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s US visit last month, India and the US have resolved all six WTO trade disputes, an official said.

The spokesman said both countries informed the WTO’s dispute settlement body (DSB) about the conclusion of all unresolved disputes.

India’s application of higher customs taxes on 28 US items has prompted a WTO complaint. The person said the WTO would release the remaining five communications.

“The United States and India are pleased to notify the DSB (dispute settlement body), in accordance with Article 3.6 of the Understanding on Rules and Procedures Governing the Settlement of Disputes, that the parties have reached a mutually agreed solution to the matter raised in this dispute,” according to a July 17 WTO communication.

The two countries have asked the dispute panel to limit its report to a concise overview of the issue and confirmation of a solution.

A 2019 US complaint against India concluded the trade dispute.

In response to US steel and aluminium tariffs, India raised customs taxes on 28 US exports, including chickpeas, lentils, and apples.
