India has a prestigious history with the sport since its affiliation with the International Korfball Federation in 1980, most notably becoming the first nation outside of Europe to host the IKF World Korfball Championship in New Delhi in 1995. Over the decades, India has successfully expanded the game to 26 states and secured multiple international accolades, including a Silver Medal at the 2nd Asian Korfball Championship and several Bronze Medals in the Asia-Oceania circuit, establishing the country as a major gateway for this sport in Asia.
Korfball is the world’s only elite mixed-gender team sport, specifically designed to promote total
gender parity by requiring each team to consist of four men and four women. Played on a rectangular court divided into two zones, the game is fast-paced and non-contact, where the primary objective is to throw a ball through a 3.5-meter high bottomless basket called a ‘Korf’ that is placed within each zone to allow for 360-degree play. The sport is unique because it prohibits dribbling or running with the ball, forcing players to rely on rapid passing and strategic movement to find an open shot; furthermore, a “defended” rule prevents a player from shooting, if an Opponent of the same Gender is within an arm’s reach, ensuring that teamwork and clever positioning are prioritized over raw physical strength. ……….)wait for more on Friday April 10).
