India Open: Sen, Satwik-Chirag reach QF berth
New Delhi, Jan 13 (UNI) World championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen on Thursday sailed into the India Open quarterfinal after defeating Felix Burestedt of Sweden.
Sen registered a 21-12, 21-15 win over the Swedish and will take on compatriot HS Prannoy in the quarterfinal.
Prannoy was handed a walkover in the second round as his opponent Mithun Manjunath withdrew from the event after testing positive for Covid-19.
The 21-year-old Uttarakhand shuttler looked confident and took the first game 21-12 without wasting time. Burestedt held early lead in the second game but later the errors kept pilling up for the Swedish.
Sen took full advantage of it and wrapped up the match by taking the second set 21-15.
In the men’s doubles, star duo of Satwik Sairajrankireddy and Chirag Shetty outplayed fellow Indian duo of Shyam Prasad and S. Sunjith (Jr) 21-19, 21-18 and marched to the quarterfinals.
The Indians will lock horns with the winner of the match between Singaporeans Hee Yong Kai Terry and Loh Kean Hean and the Indian pair Gaurav Deswal and Shubham Yadav in the quarterfinals.
Rahul Yadav Chittabooina suffered 17-21, 13-21 defeat in the hands of Irish Nhat Nguyen in the men’s singles Round-16.
